CL-830 is designed to detect sudden or abnormal rise in temperature of air. When a fire occurs and the vent expands rapidly it will cause the diaphragm to close a switch to normally open contact to signal an alarm to the panel.

If the ambient temperature rises rapidly, the air in chamber expands, and the air in chamber will not be able to outflow.

It can restore itself to normally open position when the heat dissipates.
